Michael Owen thinks Rangers’ second goal in the 2-2 Europa League draw with Benfica may have been lucky.

The Portuguese powerhouses had never dropped a game in the second division of the UEFA Cup at home,

but Philippe Clement’s team battled them to a draw to position themselves favorably for the return leg at Ibrox the following week.

Angel Di Maria gave the home team a response from the penalty spot after Tom Lawrence had opened the score.

Before the half, Dujon Sterling gave the Rangers the lead again, and the scoring was completed by an own goal by Connor Goldson.

However, it is the latter’s contribution to the second goal for Light Blues that has the former Real Madrid and England player talking.
Referee Tobias Stieler appeared to see the defender go down with a head knock. While play went on and Fabio Silva found Sterling with a precise ball to score,

Owen questions if the Rangers were fortunate to see play continue.

“Lustrous finish, Tom Lawrence,” he said to TNT Sports. The Rangers got off to a fantastic start with accuracy right into the corner.

Many individuals went there expecting to be beaten, yet they experienced none of that.Luckily,

despite one of their players being pole-axed on the ground, the referee chose not to stop the game during the build-up to the second goal.

The referee continued play even though he could have stopped it for a head injury.
“You witness the goalie lunging out with a thud.

He also begins to hold his head, so that may have been avoided.

Luckily, Rangers’ side was still in the game, and they ended the half with a beautiful little goal.”
