Rangers: A Legend admits Lewis Ferguson to the Ibrox move in the latest £54.8 million ruling
Lewis Ferguson, a midfielder for Bologna with clear links to Ibrox, was never pursued by Rangers, according to Barry Ferguson.
After transferring to Italy from Aberdeen in 2022, the 24-year-old Scottish midfielder has made an impression and established himself
as a vital member of Thiago Motta’s squad, starting 25 of the 26 Serie A games this season.
The former captain of the Gers maintains that his nephew would have gladly joined the Light Blues should there have been a transfer
interest because of his connections to Ibrox, where his father, Derek, and uncle, Barry, were both former Rangers stars.
On March 1, 20:20, he made the following statement on The Go Radio Football Show: “I am asked this question a lot by Rangers fans:
how did we not sign your nephew? He would have walked there and to the Rangers if he had been interested.
“You see, he moved to Italy, had a successful debut campaign, and now he’s elevated himself to the point where you’re talking about
£54.8 million and beyond.”
Who will Rangers and Philippe Clement sign in the summer transfer window?
It’s unfortunate that Rangers let such a promising young player get past them when Ferguson was standing right in front of them. In
recent years, missing out on potential Scottish stars has become a regular issue.
While it’s debatable, some commentators have said that there is a certain elitism around the purchase of players from Premiership
teams. However, none of the Old Firm clubs has moved quickly enough to have an impact in the local market.Hopefully, Rangers
under Philippe Clement will learn from their mistakes and not overlook the guys in their vicinity going forward. Purchasing goods
from overseas is acceptable, but Scotland already has a few unique players in the market.
