Latest News: Rangers have completed the transfer of Austrian international free scoring midfielder to partner Todd Cantwell
Rangers are considering a deal for sought-after midfielder Matthias Seidl before the summer transfer window, according to HITC.
According to the outlet’s website (7 March), the Austrian international has been watched by the Light Blues this season,
along with colleague Leopold Querfeld, following his good showing in the Austrian Bundesliga.
The 23-year-old only joined the Allianz Stadion in the summer after winning the second tier title with FC Blau-Weiß Linz,
but his form this season has earned him three full international caps and piqued the interest of several British clubs.
The Light Blues are joined by Old Firm rivals Celtic, as well as English clubs Leicester, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Wolves, and Burnley.
Seidl has nine goals and six assists in all competitions this season.
Rangers are looking to sign an Austrian international midfielder who is desired by Crystal Palace and Leicester.
When everyone is fit, the Gers have some strong choices,
with Todd Cantwell particularly effective in central attacking midfield and Tom Lawrence also at ease there.
However, both have been sidelined by injuries this season, as have the majority of Ibrox players,
highlighting the need of having high-quality backup in every position.
With so many teams vying for Seidl, winning could be difficult if one or more make an offer,
especially with Premier League money involved.
New Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, who was in the running for the Rangers post before Philippe Clement took over,
is Austrian and is reported to be very keen, therefore he might be the frontrunner to land a contract.
Rangers have been associated with probable midfield signings, and while the question of a striker addition,
such as Lawrence Shankland, will remain, it is possible that interest in Seidl will be limited.
