Former Celtics guard booming with Blazers, making big impact
The Celtics sent away two of their depth players in a sequence of transactions around the trade deadline, but they didn’t make any
major splashes. This included the Trail Blazers receiving a second-round selection in exchange for Dalano Banton, which allowed the
Celtics to maintain their roster space number fifteen.
In the end, his career received a significant boost from the Banton deal. Since joining the Blazers, the former Celtics guard has been on
a roll, averaging 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in nine games (one start) for Portland. In nine games,
including three in a
row, he has scored in double figures. That’s significant because Banton is still trying to establish a steady position in the league.”I was
welcomed with open arms by everyone,” Banton recently remarked. “I really enjoy the fan base; they are very loving and accepting of
me.” So far, it’s been fantastic. All I’m doing is attempting to piece things together and earn some victories.
Banton initially agreed to a two-year contract with the Celtics during the previous offseason. Banton is trying to make sure the Blazers
want to keep him around because the upcoming season offers certain partial guarantees on specific days. For the 24-year-old, the early
results have been encouraging so far. Although he is a free agent this summer, former C’s forward Lamar Stevens is in a similar
circumstance as he is playing well with the Grizzlies.
Following the trade of Damian Lillard to the Bucks during the off-season, Portland is currently in rebuilding mode. This gives Banton
additional minutes at his disposal, which is advantageous for him as he tries to showcase his abilities. So far, he’s making the most of
it, converting 43% of his field goals on 9.6 attempts a game.
