Ex-NFL GM Urges Chiefs to Pivot to Former $90 Million WR in Free Agency
Sadly, franchise tags and extensions have taken the best free agency wide receiver targets off the market, meaning the Chiefs will not
be able to sign a current superstar like Mike Evans, Tee Higgins, or Michael Pittman Jr.
manager Randy Mueller teased on social media on March 8. Adding:
“I’d love it- it’s a win win. Would be a top 5 fit [in my opinion].”
Similarly, on March 7, FanSided writer Joel Wagler identified the former Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl champion and five-time
1,000-yard pass catcher as a “productive WR free agent [that] Kansas City could afford”.
“Spootrac believes Beckham can be had for about $12 million in the 2024 season on a one-year deal, but he made $15 million last year
with the [Baltimore] Ravens,” Wagler reasoned. For a former $90 million playmaker in his prime, it’s a tiny price to pay, particularly if
the deal is loaded with incentives and has a smaller cap cost.
“One key stat that leans in Beckham’s favor is he averaged over 16 yards per reception with Baltimore, which has to be appealing to the
Chiefs,” the FanSided analyst continued, voicing: “There is still a lot of talent left, despite his age and injury history.”
Beckham has previously been mentioned in relation to the Chiefs as a potential free agent. His desire to play for a win-now team and
his availability have both contributed to the situation.
Beckham was in a similar situation in 2023 and ultimately inked a contract with the Ravens.
It seems that Baltimore might take a different turn in 2024.
