£38m Bayern Munich transfer target peaks Celtic interest as ‘hot candidate’ could spark huge cash bonanza
Bayern Munich is interested in signing Jeremie Frimpong this summer, which may be good news for
Celtic if a heated bidding battle starts.
After spending time in the Man City system, the right-back joined the Hoops in 2019 and left for Bayer Leverkusen in 2021. Since
then, he has advanced through the European football ranks and is now considered one of the best players on the continent for his
position. He is also an important member of the Bayer Leverkusen team, which is aiming for Bundesliga gold.
It is claimed by Sky Germany that Bayern have him on their list of candidates for a summer switch. Leverkusen are also competing in
the Europa League and made a move in the region of £11.5m for the Dutch international
when they initially got him from Glasgow.
The 30% sell-on clause, it is said, is what will cost Celtic even more money. His transfer release clause fee is expected to fetch up to
€45, or £38.4 million. At 30%, Celtic might lose about £11.5 million, which is the same amount they paid for him more than three
years ago. That would bring Frimpong’s total cash in the bank to £23 million. Based on the story, other teams are reportedly keeping
an eye on this, so a bidding war may break out for the top end of the scale.
Florian Pettenburg of Sky Sports stated: “The 23-year-old wing-back is once again on FC Bayern’s roster! The bosses are impressed
with his performances! Now, his €40–45 million release clause is in place.
“Frimpong is a strong contender in the summer if Bayern hire a coach who plans to use a back three in the future. The player hasn’t
decided anything yet. Recently, a number of elite clubs have expressed interest.”
