Rangers inspiration revealed ahead of reported £4.3m summer move

The January transfer window for Rangers was peculiar; Philippe Clement never revealed anything, and

Mohamed Diomande’s name seemed to materialize out of thin air.

The Ivorian, who has already scored two goals, has quickly established himself under the Gers manager and gotten along

well with John Lundstram in both the engine room and the team.

Although the winter transfer window is infamously tough for hiring, Mohamed Diomande’s choice to come to

Ibrox was made easy because Rangers were still in Europe.

The 22-year old is unlike any player we’ve had in recent seasons.

He has shades of Glen Kamara in terms of how he evades pressure but there are also similarities with Joe Aribo in terms of how

willing he is to take a shot on from in and around the box.

The biggest difference being that Diomande is comfortable on either foot, as seen by the two goals that he has to his account.

Ahead of Rangers trip to face Benfica, Mohamed Diomande, who is set to move permanently for £4.3m in the summer,

has revealed that our continental reputation was a key factor in making the move across the North Sea:

“I witnessed all the Rangers did and their progression when I watched them arrive in Seville.

That was also a major factor in my decision to travel here. I wish I could have a comparable experience on my own.

“Here, I’m living the dream, which for me entails competing at the greatest football level possible.

To get here, you had to play against other European clubs and be among the best in your league.

Rangers is currently ranked 26th in the UEFA Club Coefficient standings, which is not terrible considering how limited our TV deal is.

It also shows how well we have performed against the top teams in Europe, ignoring the results from last season.

To put things in context, Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven, Lazio, Milan, Sporting Lisbon, and Tottenham Hotspur are all below us,

and Arsenal is positioned slightly above us.

With Mohamed Diomande now able to enjoy Ibrox on a Thursday night under the lights, perhaps

Rangers can prolong their hopes of qualifying for the Europa League.
