Latest News: Callum O’Hare contract reviewed amid potential transfer links of Rangers and Celtic
Carlton Palmer believes Coventry City’s Callum O’Hare wants to keep his options open until the end of the season, despite links with Rangers and Celtic.
Speaking to Football League World on Wednesday (6 March), the analyst stated that the 25-year-old has had a “outstanding season” for the English Championship club and is unlikely to sign a new contract before it expires in the summer.
He added that the English attacking midfielder, who the Daily Mail believes is being watched by both Old Firm clubs,
is likely to play somewhere next season unless the Sky Blues win promotion to the Premier League.
“One player who has been attracting a lot of attention is Callum O’Hare,” Palmer remarked. “Three La Liga clubs are looking into him.
Celtic and Rangers are also reportedly interested in signing the 25-year-old.
“He has yet to sign a new contract with Coventry, and his present term is slated to expire in the summer.
He’s had a tremendous season, and with only a few games remaining, he’s unlikely to sign a new contract.
“He has scored nine goals in his last 15 games. He’s been in great form, and it’s unfortunate that they haven’t been able to hold him down,
but I understand why they haven’t. He’s a player who has undergone numerous injuries.
“He was given a new deal, and a nice one at that, but he wants to keep his options open come the conclusion of the season.
Unless they get promoted to the Premier League, I believe
Callum O’Hare will play his football elsewhere next season.”
Rangers and Celtic will battle for Callum O’Hare.
It’s not surprising that Rangers are looking to recruit O’Hare, as signing English players at the conclusion of their contracts has been a consistent trend for the club in recent years.
It has worked out well for them in recent years, with players such as keeper Jack Butland and Dujon Sterling flourishing since coming on free transfers last summer.
The attacking midfielder is at an excellent age to come in and make an impact for the Gers, having scored nine goals and provided four assists in 25 games this season.
While Celtic are expected to have a say in the situation, Philippe Clement’s team may have an advantage in signing him if they win the SPL championship fight over their Old Firm rivals.
However, with Coventry slightly outside the playoff places in the English Championship,
their total performance this season will likely influence whether or not a move north of the border could be on the cards.
