Finding Broncos: Oregon’s Bo Nix vs. South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler
The Denver Broncos are now searching for their new quarterback after parting ways with Russell Wilson. Nearly all of the
quarterbacks selected in the 2024 NFL draft class and a number of free agents have been connected to the Broncos.
Two quarterbacks in the draft who fit this description are Bo Nix of Oregon and Spencer Rattler of South Carolina. Does the Broncos
make sense in any case? Which one fits Sean Payton’s offense better?
With 61 starts under his belt, Nix has unique experience going into the NFL. He had a difficult start to his undergraduate career at
Auburn, but he turned things around and became a prospect after moving to Oregon.
Nix reads through his pre- and post-snap books quite rapidly, which is admirable. At Oregon,
he wasn’t required to make many
challenging reads, but when he did, it was outstanding. In order to get the ball out on time or prolong plays to lessen the strain he
encounters, he also plays with a strong internal clock.
Nix performs well in the middle of the field and has high velocity on shorter throws. Although it was used less at Oregon and more at
Auburn, his good athleticism is still evident on tape.
During his career at Oregon, Nix was a productive player who handled the ball well, tossing 74 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions.
During his five seasons as a starter, he has only had 26 interceptions in his career.
