The $33 million free agent acquisition by the Lakers Nears Reentry: Report

In preparation for their postseason push, the Los Angeles Lakers backcourt is about to get deeper.

Barring any hiccups,  VGabeincent should be back from his left knee surgery by mid- to late-March, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

In the FanDuel TV episode “Run It Back” airing on March 5, Charania stated, “Gabe Vincent is doing more and more on the court.” “Next week, the Lakers should have more information about Gabe Vincent’s situation. However, he still has until mid- to late-March to return to the starting lineup, barring any setbacks. Another guard is still needed by the Lakers in the backcourt.

With a three-year contract worth $33 million, Vincent, the Lakers’ top free agent acquisition, will rejoin a backcourt that also includes D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves.

For backup duty, Vincent will face off against Spencer Dinwiddie, who the Lakers signed in the buyout market.

According to Charania, “[Lakers] players are beginning to understand their roles.” “Gabe Vincent should kind of shift the tempo and pace. Taurean Prince is now coming off the bench and playing for 15 to 20 minutes, spotting up and making threes; Spencer Dinwiddie is playing as a three and D guard off that bench. Before deciding to have surgery, Vincent averaged 5.0 points, 3.4 assists, and 1.2 steals in five games for the Lakers.

D’Angelo Russell Gets the Heat

Russell led the Lakers to a comeback victory after being benched late in a 124-114 loss to the reigning champion Denver Nuggets. Russell finished with 26 points.

On Monday, March 4, at home, they defeated West’s No. 2 seed Oklahoma City Thunder 116-104. Russell shot 9 of 17 from the field and drained 5 3-pointers.

The Lakers overcame a 12-point Thunder advantage in the first quarter and extended their lead to 25 points in the fourth quarter with Russell playing at full capacity.

In the first few seconds of the fourth quarter, Russell made three straight 3-pointers, ending any chance of a Thunder comeback.
