Scott Brown will return to captain Celtic in a glamour charity match this summer.

The Parkhead hero, who is currently the manager of Ayr United, will don the green and white hoops one more on May 26 at Celtic Park against Borussia Dortmund Legends. Kickoff is at 2:00 p.m.

With help from Tom Boyd, Paul Lambert will lead the Celtic team, which is expected to feature a number of fan favorites, while Marcel Schmelzer and Roman Weidenfeller, two Dortmund stars, will play for the German team.

The Dafabet-sponsored match’s proceeds will go toward feeding the hungry. This will involve providing funding to the Paradise Pit Stop project in addition to finding new sites for food distribution in London, Ireland, and Inverclyde and Lanarkshire.

Additionally, a donation will be made in honor of Brown’s sister Fiona, who passed away in 2008 at the age of 21, to the Dundee Cancer Centre at Ninewells Hospital.

“It will be amazing for me and my family to return to Celtic as captain of the Legends side,” Brown stated. It goes without saying that I spent a significant portion of my career at the team and made countless amazing memories there, so it will be extra wonderful to wear the jersey once more.

“It will be amazing to start with so many of my old teammates and so many other Celtic legends.”

“I would like to thank the Foundation and all of the fans in advance for their support. I am also incredibly honored that a donation will be made in Fiona’s honor. It means a lot to my family.”

“Celtic FC Foundation is delighted to announce a Legends Charity Football Match – sponsored by Dafabet – at Celtic Park on Sunday, May 26, 2024, with a 2pm KO,” a statement from Celtic stated.

“Scott Brown will lead the Celtic Legends team, and we’re excited for an incredible matchup against the Legends team of German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund, which includes players like Marcel Schmelzer and Roman Weidenfeller, among many others.

It promises to be a fantastic show as the two teams have many unique ties, such as ardent fan bases that are both deeply socially conscious and a shared love of the legendary anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” This will be our first charity match at Paradise since 2018.

Naturally, both teams have also taken home the biggest trophy in club football; Borussia Dortmund won the European Cup in Munich in 1997—nearly 30 years after the historic Lisbon Lions victory.

Paul Lambert, of that legendary Dortmund team, naturally moved on to Celtic the following November, where he eventually rose to the position of club captain and won an abundance of championships.

“We are happy to announce that Paul, who was in the dugout for our previous match at Anfield against Liverpool last March, will lead the Celtic Legends team once more.

And Paul’s assistant manager once again will be none other than Tom Boyd, a legendary Celtic and former captain.”

“It’s an absolute honor to be taking the reins again, for the Foundation’s latest charity match,” Paul Lambert continued.

Given my affiliation with both teams, this is an especially memorable moment for me. I’m sure the match at Celtic Park will be amazing, and it will all be done for a great cause.

“I am very familiar with this Dortmund Legends team, and they have some incredible former players, but we have assembled a strong Celtic team that features several players that the fans will be thrilled to see return to the Hoops.”
