Oscar Cortes injury update from hospital bed as journalist raises Rangers hopes

Rangers winger Oscar Cortes has stated that surgery on a muscular injury was a “success,” according to a Colombian writer, raising expectations that the boy may play again this season.

The 20-year-old winger hobbled off Kilmarnock’s contentious Rugby Park pitch last week, holding his hamstring after Rangers’ 2-1 triumph against Derek McInnes’ side.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement then informed fans that the injury is “severe,” however no timetable for rehabilitation was provided.

Oscar Cortes was signed on a loan-to-buy basis from RC Lens in the January transfer window, but his injury history made it unlikely that he would ever play for Rangers again.

Oscar Cortes describes injury surgery as a “success”

Oscar Cortes has now taken to Instagram to report that his muscle injury operation went well, and he is now focused on returning to the Ibrox fold as soon as possible.

The winger posted this image from a hospital bed with the following caption, which has been translated from Spanish:

“Everything was a success thanks to God, we will be back soon 🙏💙🤍”

While we wish Oscar Cortes the best of luck in his return from injury and rehabilitation from surgery, the post has naturally raised hopes that Rangers will see the winger again this season.

Could Rangers get a Colombian winger this season?

While Philippe Clement declined to provide timetables for the injury, there were reports that Oscar Cortes could be sidelined for up to three months.

But, based on the Instagram photo and comments from Colombian writer Pipe Sierra, there are rising hopes that the boy may have an effect on the squad this season.

In a post on social networking platform X, Sierra claims that Oscar Cortes sustained a muscle injury in his “posterior”, which will keep him out for two months.

The Colombian journalist also stated that, while the winger remains an RC Lens player, Rangers would oversee Cortes’ recovery following an initial conversation with the Ligue 1 team.

Oscar Cortes joined RC Lens from Colombian side FC Millonarios in the summer for a reported €4.5 million (£3.8 million), but his move to France has not gone as expected.

With Rangers pushing for the child in January, the South American forward has made a strong start to his Ibrox career, making seven appearances, scoring one goal and laying on two assists.
