Jaguars Among Teams to Express Interest in Chiefs’ L’Jarius Sneed.

This offseason, the Jaguars have been linked to a plethora of NFL talents.

One week before the start of free agency, there are already rumors that the Jaguars are interested in pass rushers Haason Reddick of the Philadelphia Eagles,

Danielle Hunter of the Minnesota Vikings, and Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

L’Jarius Sneed, the cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs, is yet another name to add to the increasing list.

The Jaguars are one of three AFC South teams who have expressed interest in trading for the Chiefs cornerback, according to Tyler Dragon of USA Today.

“As anticipated, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed was formally assigned the franchise tag by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Despite the designation, Sneed is still able to pursue a trade. The Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, and Jacksonville Jaguars have all expressed interest in the Chiefs cornerback,

according to a person with firsthand knowledge of the matter who spoke with USA TODAY Sports.

The Jaguars clearly need a cornerback, especially in light of Darious Williams’ release on Tuesday.

Even though the Jaguars parted ways with Williams, they still had a serious need at cornerback,

which is understandably the biggest vacancy on the team now that neither a starting slot cornerback nor a second outside cornerback is under contract.

At the NFL Scouting Combine last week, Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke stated, “We’ve got to add to that group.

I think Coach Nielsen [Defensive Coordinator Ryan Nielsen] spoke on it, Coach Pederson [Head Coach Doug Pederson] probably spoke on it.”

I’m going to talk about it now. It is a group that requires attention. We are pleased with our group and think we have some talented young men to work with.

Although there are some veterans there, we will absolutely seek to expand that group. This week, the Chiefs franchise-tagged Sneed,

who will cost $19.8 million. To absorb Sneed’s cost, the Jaguars would need to keep clearing cap space, which they could accomplish through reorganizations,

additional layoffs, or a long-term contract with Josh Allen to lower his salary impact.

In addition, acquiring Sneed—who would probably need a second-round pick—would demand draft capital.

There are a lot of moving parts around a possible trade for the lockdown corner since any team that trades for him will also need to work on a long-term contract.
