Ibrox latest: Newcastle manager has agreed to take over the managerial position at Celtic in the summer
Skysport Report: Amidst doubts about Brendan Rodgers’ future, Celtic leaders are negotiating with Newcastle United.
Hoops Review: In the midst of the return of the Premier League, Brendan Rodgers and the Celtics have mutually agreed to part ways in the summer.
Regardless of whether Brendan Rodgers wins the league title in May, I’d be shocked if he was still managing Celtic at the beginning of the next campaign.
Over the past week, Brendan’s baiting made it unpleasant seeing and listening. In a few short days, the employer has had to deal with feelings of resentment, rejection, and revenge. He must have pondered what happened to him at his Spanish property in June, given the public outcry around Rodgers’ verbal incident with BBC reporter Jane Lewis on Sunday.
On that day, he declined Dermot Desmond‘s invitation to return to Celtic Park and abandoned his original decision to take a year off. Following his post-match interview with Lewis at Fir Park, Brendan had a press conference on Tuesday that was very similar to his first one as Celtic manager in July. It seemed to me at the time that Rodgers was being carefully questioned. Another instance of interrogation undercovering as an interview was the Tuesday pregame grilling before the Dundee game.
The previous evening, The Nine, a prime-time news program on BBC Scotland, asked a linguistics professor to offer an expert perspective on the phrase “good girl” when referring to a female television journalist. According to the professor, Rodgers’ statements were “ill thought out” and “as bad as violence” when employed improperly.
Bloodshed? Why jeopardize his character by pushing the topic in that direction? Naturally, Brendan has been the object of hateful remarks from certain Celtic supporters. He was called “Judas” and a “rat” when he returned to Celtic in the summer, slurs used to disparage him for moving to Leicester in 2019.
The level of resentment was made evident by the Motherwell game last Saturday. When he replaced Tomoki Iwata, there was booing, which demonstrated the manager’s ongoing alienation from his detractors within.
This kind of vindictive reaction was the reason behind Rodgers’ dissatisfaction at the press conference on Tuesday. A female columnist who had implied in her newspaper column that morning that Rodgers had “belittled” Lewis with his “good girl” comment was there at that meeting. Alright, it makes sense. That’s what she believes.
