“You’re not the answer” Rangers NO.9 blasted for awful display as Pursuit for 40 – Goal striker intensifies

According to Tam McManus, Cyriel Dessers is not “the answer” for Rangers since he does not capitalize on his opportunities, and Lawrence Shankland might score 40 goals in this team.

Following the 2-1 home defeat to Motherwell, the analyst stated on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show (4 March) that the Light Blues’ number nine’s failure to convert first-half opportunities came back to haunt them.

Dessers has scored 16 goals in his debut season at Ibrox, after initially struggling following his summer transfer.

Neil Lennon questioned (12m 55s): “Does Rangers’ lack of a consistent goalscorer make a difference in a game like that?”

McManus replied, “Yeah, I guess so. Dessers has definitely scored a lot of goals this season, but it appears that he needs three, four, or five chances every game. He’s getting it right now because the Rangers are providing so many opportunities.

“But a Kris Boyd or Lawrence Shankland, I believe, would have 30 or 40 goals for Rangers given the number of opportunities he misses. It came back to bother them at the weekend, as despite Motherwell taking the lead, Rangers generated four, five, and six decent chances in the first half while behind 1-0.

Rangers: 40-goal Lawrence Shankland claim made after Cyriel Dessers issue haunts Ibrox

“I do not believe Dessers is the answer. He is scoring goals, but he might be scoring more.”

Is Lawrence Shankland the missing element at the Rangers?

The Hearts skipper may have done the Light Blues a favour by scoring in the weekend’s defeat over Celtic, but his continued presence at Tynecastle may be more important in the title race.

His consistent record in front of goal this season (27 goals and counting) suggests that he would thrive at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement chose to invest heavily in Mohamed Diomande during the winter transfer window, and the Ivorian has already demonstrated why with two vital goals and a good start in Glasgow.

Dessers has made significant progress from his early-season struggles under Michael Beale, and his goals may still be enough to win the league title, but those he does not score may prevent it.

Top-tier strikers like as Andy Cole and Gonzalo Higuain had similar reputations for missed opportunities despite their high scoring totals, and the Nigerian appears to follow suit.

Boyd has stated that Shankland would better follow in his own footsteps than the current Gers number nine, and any time Clement’s side fails to win between now and the summer, it will likely draw attention to itself, potentially increasing the chances of a move for the Scot.
