Nottingham Forest and Rangers have reached a verbal agreement for the transfer of £23,000per week viewed as potential replacement of out of contract star
Scott McKenna, a Nottingham Forest defender, has spoken about his future after being linked to Rangers in January.
The 27-year-old Scotland international centre-back is now on loan at FC Copenhagen following an early-season incident at the City Ground that saw him removed off the club’s roster.
Almost four years after leaving Aberdeen for the famed English club,
McKenna’s contract expires at the end of the season, making an exit appear likely.
But Scott McKenna isn’t thinking about it just yet,
according to comments made following heavy links to both Rangers and Celtic during the January transfer window.
Scott McKenna discusses his future amid Rangers links.
Scott McKenna told Aberdeen’s Press & Journal that he is simply focused on making the most of his six months in Denmark before making a decision.
With his sights set on a Danish Superliga championship gold, the former Dons star is also determined to secure a spot on the Scotland jet to Germany for Euro 2024.
“I just need to focus on trying to play well,” McKenna said. “Then hopefully win the league championship with Copenhagen. That is all I am truly thinking about right now.
“And maybe, my performances will be good enough for (Scotland manager) Steve Clarke to consider include me in the Euro 2024 squad. It’s exciting; there’s a lot to look forward to.
Scott McKenna went on loan to FC Copenhagen in January and is due to face Manchester City in the Champions League this week.
The defender appeared in the club’s 3-1 first leg defeat to the Citizens in Denmark over three weeks ago.
Ibrox transfer would risk Aberdeen’s ire.
With Scott McKenna’s future uncertain, we believe Rangers will pursue a transfer for the Nottingham Forest defender in the next summer.
Celtic, with whom McKenna has a boyhood love, are also likely to be considered after Brendan Rodgers failed to sign the centre-back for £5 million in 2019.
The P&J study also discusses the additional £1.75 million McKenna secured for Aberdeen following his transfer to Forest in 2020, which was worth an initial £3 million.
McKenna has indicated that earning more depending on Premier League promotion and subsequent survival is the least he could do for his former club.
Something tells us that any financial goodwill will be lost if the defender signs with the Rangers,
but you never know what happens in the summer.
