Celtic signed Liel Abada from Maccabi Petah Tikva in the summer of 2021. The winger cost the Hoops £3.5 million in transfer fees (Sky Sports).

The 22-year-old, who can also play forward, performed well at Celtic under then-manager Ange Postecoglou, who is currently in charge of Tottenham Hotspur and is attempting to persuade Son Heung-min to sign a new contract.

In 23 starts and nine substitute appearances for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership season 2021-22, the teenager scored 10 goals and assisted six times.

Last season, the Israel international started 13 games and appeared 21 times as a substitute for the Hoops. The winger scored ten goals and assisted five times in those games.

Postecoglou, who did not always start Abada, left for Tottenham in the summer of 2023, and the 22-year-old has struggled to make an impact under Brendan Rodgers, who described him as “a fantastic young player” on the club’s official website in September 2023 after Celtic agreed to extend his contract until the summer of 2027.

Abada has five starts and four substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Celtic this season. In those games, he recorded one goal and one assist.

Liel Abada is leaving Celtic.
Celtic has chosen to split ways with the winger. HITC reports that Abada is on his way to Major League Soccer club Charlotte FC, where he has agreed to terms on a deal valued just under £10 million.

According to HITC sources, Abada is scheduled for a medical examination in North Carolina within the next 48 hours.

Celtic, whose defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has been compared to Virgil van Dijk, are now second in the Scottish Premiership table with 68 points from 29 games, two points behind league leaders and Old Firm rivals Rangers.
