Celtic’s interest in Danish striker Mathias Kvistgaarden has been addressed by the player himself.

In both the summer and winter transfer windows, the Brondby forward was linked with a move to Glasgow. It never materialised, despite predictions in January that the 21-year-old would cost around £8.5 million. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers instead signed Adam Idah on loan from Norwich City.

This season, the Danish youth international has eight goals and seven assists in the Superliga. In an interview with Tipsbladet, Kvistgaarden indicated that his dream is to move abroad, with a good transfer money headed Brondby’s way, however no Celtic conversations have taken place.

He stated: “I did not read the papers. They just appeared while I looked through social media. So I couldn’t help but notice that there was an occasional picture of me followed by something about Celtic.

“A couple of years ago, I was terrible at it. Back then, I read a lot about what others had written about me. I’ve become much better at letting go. It does not benefit me to read such things.

“I have not spoken to them. The dream is clearly to travel overseas at some point. It’s every player’s dream, but I don’t want to talk about it right now. I’m sitting here wearing a Brondby jersey with a season left to play. So that does not worry me at all.

“It would be an added advantage for me, having traveled all the way from the kids section. This club has developed me into a football player, and there is no doubt that I would like to return them with a high transfer fee.”
