’40 for goals for Rangers’ – Pundit issues Lawrence Shankland claim, Ibrox Star ‘Not the Answer

According to Tam McManus, Cyriel Dessers is not “the answer” for the Rangers since he doesn’t score enough of his opportunities, and

Lawrence Shankland could score forty goals for this team.

Following the Light Blues’ 2-1 home loss to Motherwell, the analyst stated on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show (4 March) that the

team’s inability to capitalize on first-half opportunities came back to haunt them.

Despite his early struggles following his summer transfer, Dessers has scored 16 goals in his first season at Ibrox.

“Does Rangers’ inability to produce a consistent goal scorer make the difference in a game like that?” inquired Neil Lennon (12 minutes and 55 seconds).

McManus responded, “Yeah, I believe so.” Although Dessers has undoubtedly scored a lot of goals this season, it appears like he

requires three, four, or even five opportunities every game.

Rangers are producing a lot of opportunities, so he’s now receiving that.

But given how many opportunities he wastes, I believe Rangers would score thirty or forty goals if they had a Kris Boyd or Lawrence

Shankland. It came back to haunt them over the weekend, as Rangers created four, five, and six excellent chances in the first half,

trailing 1-0 even though Motherwell had taken the lead.

“I don’t believe Dessers is the solution. Although he is scoring goals, he ought to be scoring more.

Lawrence Shankland the missing piece at Rangers?

The Hearts skipper may have done the Light Blues a favour even though the much-anticipated January move never materialized by

scoring in the defeat of Celtic at the weekend but the fact that he stays at Tynecastle may be more telling in the title chase.

With 27 goals and counting this season, it’s safe to assume that he would succeed at Ibrox given his current form in front of goal.

Instead, Philippe Clement chose to spend heavily on Mohamed Diomande during the winter transfer window, and the Ivorian has

already demonstrated why with two crucial goals and a solid Glasgow debut.

Dessers has come a long way since his early-season struggles under Michael Beale. His goals could still be sufficient to win the league,

but his inability to score could also keep it from happening.
