Ahead of free agency, the Dallas Cowboys are linked to a $33 million cornerback.

Kenny Moore, who signed a $33 million, four-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts in 2019, is set to become a free agent and depart the team shortly. The Dallas Cowboys are the only NFL team that makes sense for the cornerback.

The Cowboys demonstrated their dominance only last season as they won the NFC East division for the first time since 2021. All things considered, their 12-5 record earned them the second playoff seed.

Sadly, the Cowboys’ postseason run was cut short when the unexpected elimination of them by the Green Bay Packers occurred.

After the playoff bracket was widened a few years back, Dallas was the first club to fall to a seventh seed, but Jordan Love’s breakout performance made it happen.

The Cowboys have the opportunity to ensure that exasperating defeat never occurs again as free agency approaches. Even if the team’s offense and defense ranked in the top five, adding free agents to strengthen the latter is always a positive development.

The Cowboys need to keep an eye on a few names at this moment for free agency. In his piece for ESPN, Aaron Schatz discusses why Dallas should draft Colts wide receiver Kenny Moore for the upcoming season:

But with Diggs and DaRon Bland holding down the outside, they might use an upgrade at slot cornerback, where Stephon Gilmore and Jourdan Lewis are both free agents. Presenting Moore, arguably the best slot corner in the league.

Among all corners with at least 300 coverage snaps, he was ranked 11th in terms of coverage DVOA the previous season.

The Colts were third in the slot but rated 25th overall when it came to covering wide receivers outside the zone.

With 43 total run stops and assists, Moore is second among all corners, which also helps in run defense. Among cornerbacks with at least 15 combined run tackles last season, Schatz noted that his average run tackle came after a gain of just 2.9 yards, ranking him second in the NFL.

Moore has to cash in and sign with a contender following a breakout season in Indianapolis.

The cornerback isn’t getting any younger at age 28, and his chances of winning a title are running out.

In any event, in the upcoming weeks, Moore and the Cowboys might reach a significant decision. But for the former, winning against the Colts’ cornerback might be just what they need to go over the hump in the upcoming campaign.
