Rejuvenated Cyriel Dessers, a striker for the Rangers, says he isn’t back on speaking terms with the Ibrox faithful because of his shared language with his boss.

Instead, he believes that the Light Blues have found their voice in the Premiership screaming match because of Clement’s ability to communicate effectively in the dressing room. Only four months have passed since the Light Blues’ relationship with their supporters appeared to be at an all-time low when they were jeered off following a crushing loss to Aberdeen.

The outcome appeared to have put an end to Michael Beale’s reign and quieted speculation about a title challenge as well. Being the face of Beale’s summer makeover, Dessers took the brunt of the taunts and insults from the crowd. After a turbulent debut in Glasgow, the Nigerian international who was born in Belgium and speaks Dutch barely needed an interpreter to understand what the supporters were saying.

These days, however, things couldn’t be much different—the tune to their “Nice one Cyriel” chant is now a common occurrence in Ibrox. Bravo to the former Feyenoord star, who has firmly put all of those disparaging remarks back down the throats of his detractors. Under fellow Flemish speaker Clement, he has put together an incredible comeback, scoring 13 goals in 24 games. And according to Dessers, those numbers tell a lot about the impact the new manager has had on the Gers as a whole.

“I played against the manager from Belgium a few times when he was the manager at Club Brugge,” he remarked. When I was at Genk, we had a title struggle, and we came in second. His ability as a manager was evident in Belgium, when he won three straight championships.
