Jack Butland opens door for new high-calibre Rangers signings at Ibrox

The former Crystal Palace goalkeeper, who signed a free transfer to Ibrox last summer, has had a fantastic season in Scotland and is a strong candidate for an England call-up.

It is widely believed that there is a lower probability of England players being selected for the national squad. Butland might be about to refute this theory, though.

“I hope Jack Butland’s performances for Rangers have not escaped Gareth Southgate’s notice because I believe he warrants consideration for England,” Souness wrote in a Saturday, March 2, Daily Mail article (page 7 of pull-out).

“His caliber shows what a fantastic environment Rangers is for any English players who might be snobby about joining.”

Is Jack Butland of the Rangers eligible for an England call-up?

It’s reasonable to suppose that Southgate frequently overlooks Scottish Premiership players; at Ibrox, James Tavernier and Connor Goldson are prime examples.

The former has made 445 appearances for the team since arriving in 2015 and has scored 121 goals while playing right back. He has been an amazing servant to the team. Though majority of his goals come from penalties, that is an amazing defensive play.

Goldson, who has made 301 appearances for the Rangers since 2018, is an amazing leader. He has been in far better form than some of the center-backs who are frequently called up, even at the age of thirty-one.

However, Butland is expected to win his first call-up since 2019 and a spot at Euro 2024, so he could be about to break that pattern. This demonstrates that athletes may travel to Scotland and still be in the running for one of the biggest awards in sports.
