Reid, the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs and the son of Andy Reid, struck a 5-year-old girl’s car, severely injuring her brain.
Britt Reid, the former assistant coach for the Kansas City Chiefs who caused significant injuries to a small girl in a drunk driving accident in 2021, has had his sentence remitted by Missouri Governor Michael Parson.
Reid, the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, will serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest as a result of the commutation issued by Parson’s office on Friday, according to a spokesperson for Parson.
According to Parson press secretary Jonathan Shiflett, “Mr. Reid has completed
his alcohol abuse treatment program and has served more prison time than most individuals convicted of similar offenses.”
“Until October 31, 2025, Mr. Reid will be placed under house arrest with stringent probationary requirements,” he said.
On February 4, 2021, near Arrowhead Stadium,
Reid smashed his pickup into two stopped automobiles while speeding almost 84 mph with a blood alcohol content of.113.
A traumatic brain damage was among the traumas sustained by 5-year-old Ariel Young.
According to a family lawyer, Ariel will struggle for the rest of her life.
Reid was given a three-year prison sentence in November 2022 after entering a guilty plea to driving while drunk. Although the longest period permitted by statute was seven years, prosecutors had requested four years.
Parson stated in the commutation letter that although the sentence is not reduced, it can be served under home arrest.
Reid may possibly be sent back to jail if he disobeys the rules. These include conducting sporadic drug tests and requiring that any car he drives have an ignition interlock system fitted.
