Breaking News: Serious injury news confirmed at Ibrox minutes before Rangers v Motherwell

Prior to the Gers’ match against Motherwell, Rangers manager Philippe Clement has revealed that Oscar Cortes has sustained a

significant injury and will be sidelined for an extended period of time.

The Light Blues, who are without their Colombian winger, welcome Stuart Kettlewell’s team to Ibrox on Saturday, March 2, hoping to

extend their advantage over Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Clement had confirmed that the 20-year-old would miss Saturday’s clash in his pre-match press conference on Friday (1 March) but

ahead of the meeting with Motherwell the Belgian confirmed it was a more serious issue.

Speaking to RangersTV on Saturday (2 March) he said: “Oscar has a serious injury, so he will be a long time out. It’s a strange one with

the action he did to have an injury like that. We need to see what to do operation or not, also in contact with Lens about it.”

When will Oscar Cortes be fit to play for Rangers again?

Few players have been as good as Cortes since he arrived at Ibrox, despite Mohamed Diomande’s remarkable performance for the

Light Blues. Rangers have garnered a lot of acclaim for their superb January recruitment.

It doesn’t sound like supporters will be seeing the 20-year-old in action for a few weeks at least and that could potentially extend to

months if Cortes does need surgery, which could in theory mean that his season is over.

Hopefully, Cortes will recover more quickly than anticipated and return to the team in the upcoming weeks and months fit and

available, but it will be interesting to see how this new injury blow could impact a future permanent switch. If Clement’s team wants to

defeat Celtic to the Premiership title this season, they will need their best players available between now and the end of the season.

Cortes is unquestionably one of Clement’s key stars.

In other Rangers news, Lewis Ferguson may be moving to Ibrox, according to a fresh revelation made by Barry Ferguson.
