This offseason, the Denver Broncos have a lot of options at quarterback.

Russell Wilson is under contract with them for $242.6 million over five years. And they still have Jarrett Stidham, even if he is

released as anticipated. Sean Payton, the head coach, thinks Stidham can start. It’s also possible that they select a rookie in the draft.

Denver might even try to make a QB deal. But they will not follow the route that quarterback Zach Wilson of the New York Jets takes.

Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic said on February 29 that while Wilson won’t be on the Broncos’ list of targets, “they might pursue a

young quarterback, either in the draft or trade.”

Wilson, the second overall pick in the 2021 draft, was granted permission by the Jets to pursue a trade.

Joe Douglas, the general manager of the Jets, reaffirmed this to the press on February 28 at the scouting combine.

Denver Could Hold Off on Trading Zach Wilson and Wait Out the Jets

The Broncos may still pursue Wilson and sign him in the end, even if it is unlikely that they will trade for him. The 6-foot-2

quarterback is entering the last year of a four-year, $35.1 million deal.

However, the Broncos might act similarly to how teams anticipate them and Russell Wilson. They could wait for the Jets to make their

Zach Wilson choice.

“The Jets will be stuck with Wilson unless they will be picking up the majority of his fully-guaranteed compensation package for

2024,” NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk tweeted on February 29. “They’ll have to pay him more than $5.4 million in 2024

—and either cut him or keep him in the end.”

Wilson’s 2024 cap hit is $11.1 million.

“If/when he signs a one-year minimum deal with another team, [the Jets’] best-case scenario would be to release him and hope for the

offset,” Florio stated.
