24-Year-Old “In Contender” for Final Roster Spot with the Celtics: Report
Neemias Queta is now a two-way player with the Boston Celtics. There is one regular roster place available for the Celtics. The Celtics may turn Queta’s two-way deal into a regular one, but they could also use that final roster space to sign a free agent. According to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, the Celtics are thinking about that.
In a piece published on February 29, Himmelsbach stated, “The source said two-way contract center Neemias Queta remains in contention to secure the final spot.”
The Sacramento Kings waived Queta to create space for JaVale McGee, and the Celtics acquired him. In 23 games, he has made an appearance and has averaged 4.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 61.3% from the field.
With a two-way deal, Queta is limited to 50 games and is not guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. There is no game limit and he is eligible to participate in the playoffs under a conventional contract. In terms of the Celtics’ frontcourt hierarchy, Queta would be ranked sixth.
He will be a restricted free agent going into the 2024 NBA Offseason if the Celtics choose not to change his deal. The Celtics will fill the final roster space, but Himmelsbach also stated that they are not in a rush to decide.
“Yeah, the last roster position for the Celtics is still unfilled. Indeed, they will eventually fill it. No, there isn’t a pressing need to do it immediately.
