The Race to Scottish Premiership Glory : Hoops to battle Hearts without key defender due to injury sustained in training
Frankie Kent will miss Hearts’ encounter against Celtic this weekend due to an injury sustained late in the game against Hibernian.
The centre-back suffered a knee injury and underwent treatment before going on to play the whole 90 minutes and lead his team to a draw. He is now on crutches and will be sent for a scan to determine the entire extent of the condition, with the hope that it is not too bad.
However, he will undoubtedly miss Sunday’s lunchtime kickoff, according to the Edinburgh Evening News. That will be a significant blow for manager Steven Naismith, as the Englishman has been a near ever-present in the team this season, playing every minute until being rested for the Scottish Cup win over Airdrie.
Kent was signed from Peterborough at the start of the season and made a significant difference in a defence that had been vulnerable last season, both in open play and at set-pieces.
Hearts have alternated between a back three and a back four this season, but if they remain with the latter, Kye Rowles and Toby Sibbick would be potential partners for Stephen Kingsley in Wednesday’s derby.
Craig Halkett was also wounded and was scheduled to see a specialist this week.
