Chiefs Give Major Update on L’Jarius Sneed Potential Trade
The writing is on the wall, and it appears that L’Jarius Sneed’s time with the Kansas City Chiefs has gone.
After it was reported yesterday that both sides were willing to trade if they couldn’t reach an agreement on a long-term contract extension,
the Chiefs are now apparently allowing Sneed to seek a trade.
After James Palmer of NFL Network reported Wednesday morning that the organization was wrapping up early discussions with both Sneed and Chris Jones’ reps, Ian Rapoport has now confirmed that Sneed is free to speak with other clubs and assess his value.
Sneed is anticipated to have numerous suitors in the NFL. At only 27 years old, he’s coming off a breakout year that saw him establish himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the league. He’s seeking a huge payday, an understandable stance considering he was only a fourth-round draft pick
We’ve seen sign-and-trades before, and this one is akin to the blockbuster trade that landed Tyreek Hill in Miami. The Chiefs used the added cap room to sign a new Jones contract at the time, and history may repeat itself in 2024.
With other core players such as Nick Bolton, Trent McDuffie, Creed Humphrey, and others set to sign new contracts soon, it appears that Brett Veach does not want to commit too much future resources to a position where he has previously researched and developed players efficiently.
If we have seen Sneed’s final game as a Chief, he will be regarded as a leader of one of the best defenses in Kansas City’s history, as well as a critical piece in the dynasty.
