A former England player has urged a Liverpool star to remain at Anfield rather than join Celtic. Caoimhin Kelleher, a Celtic target, has
impressed former England and Liverpool goalie David James, who thinks he may provide a
long-term replacement for Alisson should he inevitably leave the team. He claimed that Kelleher is staying
in Merseyside for the time being because it is the “right thing” to do.
the goalkeeper who previously played for Manchester City and is expected to hang up his
boots at the conclusion of the 2023–2024 campaign.
James, now aged 53, made 53 appearances for England on the international stage from 1997 to 2010. At club level, he played for teams
such as West Ham United, Portsmouth and Bristol City, before retiring from professional football in 2014.
What did David James say about Caoimhin Kelleher?
“Even though Alisson is the world’s finest goalkeeper, he won’t be around forever. And Alisson will eventually move on if you keep
adding trophies to your collection like Kelleher does. As a result, you should be able to establish yourself as the best player.
“At the moment, especially in England, I can’t think of any other teams where Kelleher is likely to finish first or win as many titles as
he is likely to with Liverpool. I believe that by remaining where he is, he is acting appropriately.”
