Noah Mbamba was linked to Rangers in November; now, the midfielder might win the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.
The Belgian youth, 19, is a squad player for the German giants,
who could be on the verge of winning their first Bundesliga title in club history.
Noah Mbamba was called on the bench in the weekend’s win against Mainz,
which helped Xabi Alonso’s side preserve their eight-point lead at the top of the table.
If Bayer Leverkusen wins the title, it will halt Bayern Munich’s incredible 11-game winning streak, which began in February with a 3-0 loss to Bayer.
Noah Mbamba, who has played three Bundesliga games this season,
was an unused substitute for the German side in that famous victory.
Noah Mbamba aims for title with Bayer Leverkusen.
Rangers were thought to be dominating the fight to recruit Noah Mbamba in January, beating Manchester City to the midfielder’s services.
Philippe Clement gave the young Belgian his football debut at Club Brugge,
and there is speculation that the Rangers manager’s influence may arrange an Ibrox swap.
After signing Noah Mbamba in the summer of 2023, the midfielder is under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2028,
and we don’t expect them to rush to sell him.
However, given Mbamba’s limited appearances this season and Bayer Leverkusen’s development under Xabi Alonso,
Rangers may consider a loan move in the summer.
Have Philippe Clement and Rangers moved on?
There’s a reason why Ibrox manager Philippe Clement gave Noah Mbamba his debut as a 16-year-old,
but the Belgian played down expectations.
Claiming that the midfielder must progress “step-by-step” is clearly a motto that has carried over to his time in Germany.
“He shows a lot in training every day,” former Club Brugge manager Clement stated in 2021.
He has worked a lot, but be cautious. The road is still lengthy.
I’ll treat him similarly to Charles De Ketelaere (who later joined AC Milan for £30 million).
Allow him to grow and give him plenty of playtime without expecting too much from him. He must grow gradually.”
While Rangers have been connected with Noah Mbamba,
the appearance of one midfielder implies that even minutes at Ibrox may be difficult to come by.
Mohamed Diomande, who was signed in the January transfer window, has been a revelation at Ibrox,
and his new contract signals the club may have moved on.
