Rangers, who are currently top of the Scottish Premiership and finally in charge of the title race, should be in an ideal position to enhance Philippe Clement’s squad this summer. Instead, Ibrox officials are reportedly considering selling one of the club’s greatest players.

Rangers Transfer News

While the focus on the pitch has been on the title fight, and rightfully so, Rangers are set to lose a number of players at the conclusion of the season. As it stands, Kemar Roofe, Borna Barisic, John McLaughlin, Ryan Jack, John Lundstram, and Leon Balogun are all slated to go. Although there is still a lot of hope for Lundstram to sign a new contract, others appear to be leaving Ibrox at the conclusion of the season.

Those anticipated departures will leave Clement with a daunting assignment in the summer: guaranteeing that his side competes for the Scottish Premiership once more in his first full season in command. According to reports, the former AS Monaco manager could be boosted by the permanent signing of Oscar Cortes, following the winger’s successful loan spell.

However, the sale of crucial player Jack Butland has not been ruled out. According to Chris Jack of Rangers Review, Rangers have a “number in mind” to trade Butland this summer, despite their prior determination to keep the goalkeeper when clubs approached them in January.

Jack told Rangers Review, “He’s invaluable to the Rangers. As soon as Forest expressed interest early in the transfer window, I verified with the club, and it was just not going to happen. There was no way.

“Ultimately, money speaks. As impressive and essential to the group as he has been, that does not guarantee he will be here indefinitely. Rangers will eventually decide on a number. No player is currently for sale. If you can bring someone in on a Bosman and then sell them 12 months later for £15-20 million, that money can go a long way.”

Rangers should maintain “priceless” Butland.

If Rangers win the Scottish Premiership this season, they should avoid dissolving Clement’s squad. It is a title that they should build on, not utilize to take a step back. Butland is a more vital part of that than ever, considering his recent form, therefore the Gers should do everything they can to maintain their shot-stopper.

Reports now suggest that the former Stoke City player is in line for his first England call-up since September 2018.

When the summer transfer window opens, Butland may once again be the focus of interest, but Rangers must resist this interest in order to maintain one of their key players.
