Kilmarnock v Rangers Updates: Philippe Clement announces the return of Fan Favorites to bolster options in Attack

Rangers’ games are all important right now, but few visits in the SPFL are more difficult than visiting Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Match day one saw Michael Beale overthink things by attempting to battle their physicality rather than focusing on his own players,

but current Gers manager Philippe Clement will not be as distracted.

What he will have to do is deal without the option of bringing recently returned Kemar Roofe off the bench for Rangers,

and the manager has hinted that someone else in the team may be given the opportunity to face Kilmarnock as a result.

Roofe’s difficulties are well known, and the fact that he played 45 minutes for the B squad on Monday hinted that he would skip the short trip to Ayrshire.

Then there’s the artificial surface, which Killie are rumored to be getting rid of shortly; but, until then,

a 31-year-old with a five-year history of calf problems is unlikely to play on such a pitch.

Speaking prior of the game, Philippe Clement stated that Roofe’s absence will allow someone else in the Rangers squad to impress against Kilmarnock.

“The only thing is that I can’t include Kemar Roofe in the lineup again due to the surface.

“So that is a clear indication from my medical staff that it is very unsafe given his injury and the number of injuries.

In this sense, playing on such a pitch is disadvantageous.

“But we need to adapt again and it is a chance for another player.”

Unfortunately, there are no clear forward possibilities to fill the void created by someone who consistently scores goals per minute.

As we’ve seen from Clement in the past, he’s not afraid to deploy young players instead of playing someone out of place.

Zak Lovelace impressed when he was given a chance before suffering a hamstring injury that necessitated surgery,

but he is the type of player who can now make a difference  now that he is back.

Lovelace also offers a central option that Scott Wright or Ross McCausland can’t.

Cyriel Dessers and Fabio Silva will be the two expected to lead the line but, in Roofe’s absence,

Rangers fans would welcome the return of Lovelace in the squad to face Kilmarnock.
