EXCLUSIVE:The Denver Broncos’ star player recently signed a $85.7 million contract.

Even with the salary cap amount increasing by $30 million to $255.4 million in 2024, the Broncos have few options in free agency.

The primary reason the Broncos are currently $27 million over the salary limit, according to Spotrac.com, is because Russell Wilson’s

deal is about to expire. If the Broncos release Wilson before the end of 2024, they will currently face a dead cap charge of $85 million;

but, they have the option to reduce that amount.

According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, the dead money would be split between the Broncos’ 2024 ($35.4 million) and 2025

($49.6 million) seasons if Wilson is not released by June 1. The Chiefs still have the option to place Sneed under the franchise tag,

which would come with a one-season cost of $19.8 million that is completely guaranteed.

According to a computation by Spotrac.com, Sneed’s market worth is $65.3 million times four years. That works out to $16.3 million a

season on average. The Broncos may free up $64.7 million in cap space by renegotiating the contracts of Zach Allen,

Mike McGlinchey,

Ben Powers, and Courtland Sutton, according to Andrew Mason of Denversports.com. Mason added that the Broncos might have

saved money by releasing Tim Patrick after his previous two season-ending injuries or by moving Jerry Jeudy and Patrick together.

  The Cap Situation in Denver

The Broncos have expressed interest in L’Jarius Sneed, the cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs who won the Super Bowl, according

to Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda. The Atlanta Falcons are reportedly interested in Sneed, but the Broncos have also “expressed interest”

in him, according to a Pauline report from February 27. Some people believe Denver would have a strong cornerback tandem if Sneed

and Patrick Surtain were paired together. Others, however, have directly informed me—something I first revealed during Shrine Bowl

practices—that Sneed would provide insurance if they offered Surtain as part of a package to advance and select one of the top-ranked

quarterbacks.Sneed has intercepted 10 passes in his career, including 5 in the last 2 seasons, and has also broken up 25 passes since

the 2022 campaign.
