A Dallas Cowboys beat writer has a

certain college football standout in mind

and thinks the team might surprise

everyone by selecting a quarterback in

the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Cowboys won 12 games for the third

straight season and won the NFC East

division title twice during that span. But,

Dallas unexpectedly saw their season

end in the Wild Card Round—this time to

the Green Bay Packers—for the second

time in as many years.

It goes without saying that the roster

will need to be adjusted in 2024, and

because the team does not have a lot of

salary room to utilize in free agency,

they will likely need to address some

problems in the April draft. The

quarterback position appears to be one

they won’t have to worry about, and in

recent weeks, one of the main club news

items has been Dak Prescott’s new contract deal.

In the NFL Draft of 2024, Jordan Travis

might be selected by the Dallas Cowboys.

Not quite so quickly, though. After

examining this year’s event and the

needs Dallas will address with their five

NFL Draft picks on Monday, Dallas

Morning News Dallas Cowboys reporter

Kevin Sherrington offered an unexpected

recommendation regarding the

quarterback position.

“The Cowboys could use a cornerback

and more offensive linemen in addition

to linebackers.” Written by Sherrington.

“Perhaps a quarterback from Florida

State, like Jordan Travis.”

The idea is puzzling because, in addition

to Prescott, the team traded for Trey

Lance and re-signed Cooper Rush the

previous season. For 2024, both will

continue to be paid at relatively

reasonable rates. The Dallas Cowboys

using their draft pick on a different

quarterback would be unusual.

especially after suffering a broken leg

that ended the season.

Though owner Jerry Jones is renowned

for making unconventional choices,

Lance and Rush would be intriguing

trade prospects for clubs in need of a

reliable backup quarterback following a

season in which many teams

experienced injuries to their main

quarterbacks. Travis was having an

excellent season at Florida State before

to his injury, which helped put the team

in the running for the College Football

Playoffs.
