Philippe Clement has stated that Kemar Roofe will not play against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday, February 28.

The attacker has been working hard to recover from a long-term injury, recently playing for Rangers B as he strives for full fitness.

Clement has been out of action for the senior team since December, leaving him with little options up front, with Danilo and Abdallah Sima both out.

Clement told the club’s official X account on Tuesday (27 February): “The squad is fine – there have been no further injuries since the weekend, but Kemar Roofe will not play – but this creates a chance for another player.”

Despite the positive update, Kemar Roofe remains out of the Rangers’ team.

Roofe has been a disappointment for the Gers, despite Ibrox enjoying a spectacular run of success, going 10 games unbeaten since losing to Old Firm rivals Celtic in December.

Clement has been relatively short on attacking alternatives this season, with Rabbi Matondo the most recent addition to the injury list, and Danilo and Sima also missing out.

Cyriel Dessers has been an outstanding addition to the squad since Clement arrived at Ibrox in October, after the striker failed to make the necessary effect during Michael Beale’s rule.

However, the Belgian would prefer to be able to alter and swap his forward line to keep all of his players fresh rather than risk further injury. However, Roofe must regain full fitness before returning.

Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande’s January additions were much-needed, as the two hit the ground running and scored early on.

Rangers are showing no signs of slowing down and will most certainly sail past Kilmarnock, leaving Roofe to watch from the sidelines once more, but not for long.
