DONE DEAL : Rangers have completed the signing of £6,000per week winger compared to Raheem Sterling
The 20-year-old Colombian winger joined on loan from Ligue 1 club Lens in the January transfer window, with an option to buy (official website, 1 February).
Cortes has appeared in six games in all competitions and scored his first goal for the club in a 5-0 Scottish Premiership victory over Hearts on Saturday (24 January).
Ferguson, a former Rangers player, told Ibrox News exclusively that he appreciates what Cortes has brought to the team and would want to see him stay longer.
When asked if he expects Rangers to make a permanent move and if he would like to see it, Ferguson replied: “Oh, I’d like to see him, of course.
What I appreciate about Cortes is that I can see a player’s hunger and bravery, which we don’t connect with widemen or forward-thinking players.
“He isn’t afraid to move around and stick his head in. He’s not the largest lad in the world, but it’s evident he enjoys running with the ball.
As a fan, I think it’s magical because he’s always looking to go ahead of the game. But I like how, in a couple of games, there were balls on the wide right, and he gets himself into the box, between the sticks, and he’s not afraid to put his head where it hurts.
He took a few knocks before getting up and dusting himself off. I believe that is necessary while playing Scottish football because it can be tough at times.
“But there’s a lot to like about him and again if he’s a permanent fixture in that squad all the better.”
Will the Rangers make a full transfer for Oscar Cortes?
Rangers fans were concerned when Abdallah Sima suffered a long-term injury while representing Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations.
However, Philippe Clement moved fast to sign Cortes to compensate for the loss of the on-loan Brighton winger, and he appears to be a fantastic bargain.
Furthermore, Rangers have included an option-to-buy provision, which you would expect would not be included if they did not need to budget for a full deal.
If Cortes continues to impress in Glasgow as he has thus far, there is no reason to believe he will not sign a permanent contract.
