The Romanian international playmaker, 25, has spent the season out on loan at La Liga side Alaves but as of late has found himself out of the Spanish side’s XI.

It will be a source of great frustration for the player, who left Rangers in the summer in the search of playing time following a devastating cruciate ligament injury. Claiming that Ianis Hagi “did not want to leave” Rangers, the story includes several testimonies surrounding the midfielder’s love of the Ibrox club. The report claims that “it remains to be seen if he has a future in Glasgow” and suggests that it will be up to Philippe Clement as to whether or not the club opt to keep Hagi around

As things stand, the chances of Ianis Hagi returning to Alaves on a permanent basis are branded “slim” with a return to Ibrox a genuine possibility as a result. Alaves loan stint has not worked

The report also suggests that perhaps Ianis Hagi – who had a public spat with Michael Beale over playing time – might have been better sticking it out at Rangers. The midfielder might not have been getting the exposure he craved following that injury under the Englishman but the Belgian has brought renewed confidence to the club. Not only that, Hagi would’ve had the chance to prove himself worthy and almost definitely been given minutes under Clement’s squad rotation policy.

With a call-up to Romania’s Euro 2024 almost a guarantee, there will be a summer tournament between any final minutes for Alaves and return to Rangers training. But as for the midfielder returning to Ibrox – having this week nostalgically referenced that heroic showing v Braga – we’ll just have to wait and see.
