According to journalist Dean Jones, Rangers executives are concerned that a “special” Ibrox player may seek a move

away from the club during the summer transfer window.

The Gers are still dominating the Scottish Premiership this season, with Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing of Hearts keeping

them two points clear at the top of the league.

Regardless matter what occurs between now and the end of the season, fresh additions must arrive during the

summer transfer window, allowing Philippe Clement to take his squad to the next level with players tailored to his

demands and system.

Oscar Cortes joined Rangers on loan from Lens in January, but according to recent sources, the club intends to make

his move permanent in the summer if he performs well in the interim.

Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie is also being considered to strengthen the Gers’ assault, and the attacker will

be available on a free transfer when his contract at Bramall Lane expires at the end of the season.

“I believe Cantwell is enjoying life at Rangers. I’d be astonished if he departed the club during the summer. However,

Rangers’ main concern would be that Premier League clubs will look at his circumstances and decide to offer him a

large sum of money. Given how good he has played at times, it is not impossible.”

The prospect of Rangers losing Cantwell this summer is concerning, given the great impact he has made since joining

on a permanent basis from Norwich City last year.

The 25-year-old has given technical talent to midfield, with the ability to keep the ball in tight spaces, but he is also a

dedicated worker who gives his all for the team.

Five goals and three assists in the middle of the park is a solid return in the Championship in 2023/24, and his

former youth team coach Gary Cockaday has previously praised him as a “special” prospect.

As Jones mentions, Cantwell appears to be content at Rangers, so a transfer elsewhere would be unexpected, but
