An old friend of Steven Gerrard’s claims that the legendary player from Liverpool deserves a shot at the Anfield dugout after his success at Rangers.

Former midfielder Xabi Alonso is a popular choice amongst fans, as he looks set to dethrone Bayern Munich as Bundesliga kings with

Bayer Leverkusen. Yossi Benayoun meanwhile believes Gerrard is a worthy candidate in the race.

There have been previous calls for the legendary Kop player to lead Liverpool at some point after he began managing Rangers in 2018

and won the Scottish Premiership. He was able to transfer to Aston Villa in 2021 as a result,

but his tenure as an EPL manager was short lived.

Right now, he and Al Ettifaq are in Saudi Arabia. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Benayoun asserts that Gerrard could manage the

Liverpool role given his success at Rangers. “For me, it has to be someone who identifies with Liverpool,” he stated.

“One of them will carry on what Klopp has started since they are familiar with the team, if they can bring someone like Xabi [Alonso]

or—this may come as a surprise—someone like Steven Gerrard.

“Xabi is a close friend of mine, and I understand the buzz surrounding him in the Liverpool manager’s role. Stevie’s time at Aston Villa

wasn’t very successful, but he performed admirably in Scotland. Given his career achievements,

he merits the opportunity to serve as coach at Liverpool.

“Liverpool can build on Klopp’s stability over the last nine years if they hire the right individual. not to swap out 35 guys and have

everyone go. Granted, a few players might leave, but the best players will always want to visit Liverpool.

“They are now vying for trophies, and Klopp is in charge, but it’s a massive club with the resources and infrastructure to stay that way.
