Glasgow Rangers made a huge statement of purpose this afternoon by defeating Hearts 5-0 at Ibrox,

increasing their lead in the Premiership title race to five points.

More importantly, possibly for Philippe Clement, the goal differential has been stretched, which could prove key in the coming months.

Every player was on fire from the start, and Mohamed Diomande scored after only two minutes, setting the tone.

Another two goals were added in the first half, and the victory was essentially sealed when the teams went into the break.

Two more goals came after the interval, and it was difficult to choose a standout performer,

since both Diomande and Cyriel Dessers impressed.

Diomande and Dessers’ game of numbers versus Hearts

The Ivorian midfielder scored his first goal for the club last week and soothed the worries at Ibrox today.

The 22-year-old also made an important pass, completing 86% of his passes and winning 100% of his ground duels,

demonstrating that he can contribute in a variety of performance measures, and his performance will delight Clement.

Dessers, on the other hand, could have easily scored a hat trick.

The Nigerian squandered a great opportunity and made only six passes all day,

but he ended up scoring another brace for the Ibrox club.

It’s fair to say he continues to exhibit these Jekyll and Hyde characteristics, as no one knows what type of player will show up.

The duo performed admirably, but it was maybe another winter signing who had the finest game,

as Oscar Cortes finally got off the bench for the Gers.

Oscar Cortes’ statistics versus Hearts

The young Colombian has looked the part in his early appearances for the club, demonstrating a desire to make an impact.

Clement gave him another start against Hearts this afternoon, and he was not disappointed.

The 20-year-old may have lost possession 13 times,

but this was due to his drive to consistently assault the opponent defenders, which he more than compensated for during the match.

Not only did he provide an assist, but he also fired a superb low shot into the opposing goal after 37 minutes to extend the Gers’ lead,

giving the Ibrox faithful a peek of his goalscoring ability.

Aside from that, he made one critical pass, attempted a dribble, and took 34 touches,

delivering one accurate cross while seeming “lively” on Football Wonderkids on X.

Despite his lack of experience, the young dynamo delivered an exhilarating performance,

demonstrating that he has what it takes to shine at the Light Blues.

More performances like these from Rangers will ensure the league crown returns to Ibrox for the first time since the 2020/21 season.

Clement must not rest on his laurels, though, since a tough match against Kilmarnock awaits them on Wednesday evening, and it will be another test of their powers.
