Celtic are reportedly interested in high-profile Irish attacker Patrick Casey. The Ireland U19s star is now playing for EFL League One team Charlton Athletic, but given their precarious situation at the foot of the table, they may struggle to keep the striker.
According to Football Insider, Celtic are competing with Brighton and a few Swiss clubs for Casey’s signing. Casey has proved his accurate finishing skill as he progresses through Charlton’s youth systems, netting 31 goals this season.
Brighton’s interest in Casey is predictable given their success with Ivan Ferguson. Casey would not be a Celtic first-team signing, but he made his Charlton debut this year and is a future prospect.
The question is how he fits in with Celtic B, who play in the Lowland League. It’s hardly a tempting alternative. Having said that, Bosun Lawal’s ascent from the Lowland League to now playing for Fleetwood demonstrates that there is a pathway to the first team.
Celtic are already planning for a summer rebuild as No. 1 Joe Hart prepares to retire. The 36-year-old is bringing an end to an impressive career after finding a home at Celtic. The 75-cap former England international confessed that he was considering moves to Manchester City and Celtic.
