Breaking News- Atlanta Falcons named potential landing spot for veteran QB: it may surprise you who they are
It is anticipated that, in whatever order, Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels will be the first three
picks in the April draft.
The Falcons may choose to go with a veteran to carry the team from 2024 to 2025,
when they may decide to go back into the quarterback market, unless they think J.J. McCarthy is worth the eighth overall pick and could develop into a franchise quarterback.
This is because the Bears, Commanders, and Patriots all have needs at the position.
What options are there for veterans then? As Baker Mayfield is expected to sign a three- or four-year contract,
Kirk Cousins probably doesn’t fit the criteria and will instead get a two- or three-year deal.
If the Broncos let Russell Wilson go, he might not even want to accept a one-year deal,
depending on where he signs. Not all Falcons fans have as many options as they may think.
Regretfully, a player such as Gardner Minshew, Ryan Tannehill, or Jacoby Brissett may be the one-year bridging option.
Or perhaps Jimmy Garoppolo, who The Athletic said would suit with well with the Falcons
The Falcons just need a reliable quarterback to go along with their intriguing offensive package.
They seem like a good possibility to trade up into the top three, if not take J.J. McCarthy at No. 8, considering that they have more skill on both sides of the ball than most rebuilding teams.
Marcus Mariota, another former Raider, may not be as good or dependable of a backup as Garoppolo.
There are undoubtedly barriers to a future free agent agreement for the 32-year-old,
as he will eventually be released by the Raiders and will also serve a two-game suspension for breaking the league’s policy regarding performance-enhancing chemicals.
The Falcons would probably be better suited going with in-house prospect Taylor Heinicke,
depending on the price. All of them are boring choices, but that’s the purpose if you’re a fan who is still unhappily reading this.
What choices do the Falcons have if, as Steve Wyche believes, they aren’t interested in Justin Fields,
they don’t find their guy in the draft, and the top free agents, Cousins and Mayfield, sign extensions?
They may have to simply kick the can down the road till 2025 since it won’t arrive well on the fan base.
