Supercomputer predicts chances of Rangers winning Europa League after last-16 draw

Rangers’ prospects of winning the Europa League have dropped after being drawn against Benfica, according to Opta Analyst.

The oddsmakers have given the Gers a 0.6% chance of collecting the cup in Dublin three months from now.

That is somewhat lower than the one-percent chance given to the Gers previous to their tie with Benfica on Friday (23 February).
Europa League Favorites 2023-24

Perhaps unexpectedly, Liverpool are the favourites to win the competition, with a 32.3% chance.

Bayer Leverkusen is second with 19.8%, Milan is third with 8.9%, and Benfica is the Gers’ last-16 opponent.

For what it’s worth, the Gers are given a 25.5% chance of winning the knockout match and progressing to the quarter-finals.

Only three teams, Slavia Prague, Sparta Prague, and Qarabag, are assigned a lower chance of winning the tournament than Rangers.

Few people would have given the Gers much hope of making the final two seasons ago, so the underdog tag can work in our favor.

Overcoming the Portuguese champs will be a huge feat, but Philippe Clement’s team is more than capable of achieving it.

It will create a fantastic atmosphere at Ibrox, even though the kick-off time has been moved earlier.

If they manage to reach the quarters, then we have already witnessed that anything is possible.
