Rangers injury news as Philippe Clement shares Todd Cantwell update ahead of Hearts clash
Todd Cantwell’s injury will keep him out of action for a “few weeks,” according to Rangers boss Philippe Clement, before the team
plays Hearts.
The English attacking midfielder, who is starting a term on the treatment table,
will miss Saturday’s (24 February) match against Hearts, the Belgian
announced at his pre-match press conference on Friday, February 23.
Cantwell was substituted out after 60 minutes in the Light Blues’ most recent 3-0 victory against St Johnstone; nonetheless, Clement
has stated that Kemar Roofe’s return will give the Gers a lift when they take on Steven Naismith’s team.
Clement stated: “Todd Cantwell will be out for a few weeks which is disappointing but that is football,” as cited by Rangers on X on
February 23. Kemar Roofe will be in the squad for tomorrow after training this week.
Cantwell’s absence from Rangers’ match against Hearts on Saturday is a major setback for Clement and his team, as the Englishman
has finally started to rekindle his best form under the Belgian as a vital member of his squad.
When he plays at his best, the 25-year-old can win the Gers a game on his own thanks to his superb ball handling skills and a creative
spark that not many players at Ibrox can match. It would be devastating to lose him at this point in the season.
The good news is that Clement only anticipates the English midfielder’s absence to last a few weeks, indicating that the problem is far
less serious than those that have affected Danilo or Abdallah Sima.
Another major plus is Kemar Roofe’s comeback. Between now and the end of the season, maybe, the Jamaican international can
provide a couple goals to relieve some of Cyriel Dessers’ load at the top of the pitch.
