The Gers are set to clash with the Portuguese giants over two legs in the last 16, pitting them against formidable talents like Angel di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi. Despite notable victories under Clement’s leadership, including a triumph over Real Betis, he recognizes the formidable nature of their upcoming opponents.

“It’s a very, very good team. I think it will be the first game when I’m here that we will be underdogs in a game, that’s the reality,” Clement commented.

However, he remains optimistic about Rangers’ chances, emphasizing belief in the team’s abilities and the importance of maintaining peak performance levels.

“We believe in our qualities… but we need to be at our top, top performances and you need to have luck also in key moments in the game,” he stated.

Acknowledging the significance of European nights for the club, Clement highlighted the contrast in resources between Rangers and Benfica but expressed confidence in the team’s growing momentum and determination.

“In that way, Benfica are quite in front of us but I think there’s a really special story developing here in the building and there’s a lot of motivation and hunger and desire. With that, we can do really amazing things,” he added.

Clarifying his remarks on underdog status, Clement affirmed that it extends beyond Europe, indicating a shift in perception for Rangers in various matchups.

“In all the games we’ve played until now… I don’t see us as underdogs against Celtic. For me, we are two teams at a similar level competing so that’s different than with Benfica,” he explained.
