Rangers: Alexander Smith transfer could be blocked amid The Athletic update – Football Lawyer
An update has surfaced that suggests Rangers sensation Alexander Smith might not be able to leave Ibrox, according to Andrew Visnovsky.
On Thursday, February 22, journalist Tom Bogert of The Athletic tweeted that Premier League and Major League Soccer teams are showing interest in the 15-year-old dual-national player,
who is both American and Scottish.
Football attorney Visnovsky responded to the tweet by saying that it’s unlikely the midfield player would
transfer to a US academy before becoming 18 unless his parents make a non-football-related move,
although he could do so to an English team when he becomes 16.
Rangers should hang onto Alexander Smith
Rangers will undoubtedly be concerned since it seems like Smith is being eyed by a number of clubs outside of Scotland.
At Ibrox, the adolescent is obviously well-liked, and he is the precise kind of player they hope to see eventually
make it into their first squad.
The goal of the Gers is to consciously try to provide a route for their best academy players to carve out prosperous futures for themselves at the team.
But to achieve that over a number of years, they will need to retain those players in Glasgow and be
able to leverage those possible success stories to attract other young players.
Although it doesn’t appear like anything can happen with Smith until he is 16,
the Light Blues will surely be discussing how to cling onto him.
