Rangers prospect Alexander Smith is attracting interest from Premier League academies as well as MLS clubs, according to Tom Bogert.

The Athletic journalist wrote [22 February] that clubs around the world are keeping an eye on the 15-year-old midfielder,

who is highly regarded at Auchenhowie.

According to The Sun, Arsenal may be close to signing Smith from Rangers after tracking him for “some time” and preparing a six-figure compensation sum.

Arsenal faces tight competition for young Rangers talent.

Smith appears to be a fantastic talent, one that the Gers may struggle to retain given the number of clubs vying for his services.

The 15-year-old starred in the East Mallorca Cup in Spain last April, winning four Man of the Match accolades in five games for Rangers.

There’s no telling how high this young player’s potential is.

Although the Ibrox club will receive a sizable compensation money for the wonderkid,

Rangers fans will be disappointed to see the young prodigy leave the club with so much promise.

Philippe Clement has demonstrated that there is a clear road from the club’s youth to the first squad,

with Ross McCausland serving as the perfect example.

After being given his first meaningful chance this season by interim manager Steven Davis, McCausland has only improved,

leaps and bounds since earning his place in the senior group.

He now has 11 Scottish Premiership starts and eight more substitute appearances, demonstrating that age is no barrier in Clement’s squad.

Of course, the decision is the player’s, and it is understandable if he chooses to leave with so many bright lights in front of him,

but he could grow just as well if he stayed in Scotland.
