‘Take the fee’ – Chris Jack names three players who could leave Rangers in summer

Chris Jack has claimed Ben Davies, Leon Balogun and Leon King could all be set to leave Rangers this summer in a bid to reinvest and strengthen in defence.

According to a Rangers Review journalist, considering Davies and King’s lack of playing time,

they may be released before a decision on Balogun’s contract is made.

It was stated that if the club is able to recuperate the players’ fees,

the funds will be reinvested either to strengthen Connor Goldson and John Souttar in the position or to bring in a solid backup.

Speaking to The Rangers Review [21 February], Jack stated:

“It’s an issue the management will most likely try to improve in the summer.

Ben Davies has featured sparingly under [Philippe] Clement due to fitness difficulties.

“He appears to be one of the men who, come the summer, you’d return the fee,

reinvest the salaries, and attempt to strengthen in that position.
“Leon King is down the pecking order; I wouldn’t be surprised if he moved on.

Balogun is one of the people up for contract negotiations.

“I think if you went into next season with Goldson and Souttar as your starting centre-halves,

you could either add to it and bring in someone better or bring in someone to provide competition there.

“Rangers transfer news comes ahead of the summer.
If the three Rangers defenders are expected to leave this summer,

replacements will be required to replace Souttar and Goldson in defence.

Goldson has been an excellent servant at Ibrox and has got great praise for his efforts this season,

so his position appears to be secure, with the defence formed around him and James Tavernier.

Souttar, on the other hand, has been a consistent presence alongside his teammates without really reaching the heights,

and there is always the risk that one poor performance would result in him being dropped from the team and rotated with Balogun and Davies.

Centre-back has never been a problem at Ibrox, but there is no doubt that the position may be strengthened,

with Leicester’s Harry Souttar being one option.

If Clement decides to transfer the defenders, this position will undoubtedly be one to watch in the summer.

In other Rangers news, Alan Stubbs has embarrassed himself with his most recent Clement statement.
