Rangers had the option to sign the playmaker for £5 million in the summer of 2023, but Bayern Munich bought it off and did a deal with PSV instead.
Malik Tillman, a former Ibrox loanee who performed well for Rangers last season, has been described as exceptional by his PSV teammate Ricardo Pepi.
Malik Tillman, a current PSV player and former Rangers loanee, has been the subject of Ricardo Pepi’s raves.
In the summer of 2023, Tillman left German powerhouse Bayern Munich to join Dutch heavyweights PSV.
starts and 6 substitute appearances, tallying 10 goals and dishing out four assists along the way.
Last season, Tillman played for Rangers in the UEFA Champions League, making four starts and one substitute appearance.
Praise for former Rangers loanee Malik Tillman
Both for PSV and the USA national football team, Pepi and Tillman are teammates, and the 21-year-old attacker has nothing but praise for him.
Rangers had a £5 million option to sign the playmaker in the summer of 2023, but Bayern Munich bought it out and made a deal with
PSV, according to Goal.
Before he joined the Rangers, I saw a lot of footage of him; he was a talented player. This was said by former Rangers manager
Giovanni van Bronckhorst to RTL. Tillman performed admirably for us the previous year. In the Champions League play-offs, he
assisted PSV and scored crucial goals against Union Saint-Gilloise.
“He’s strong on the ball and also with his work ethic. He also reads the game and he has good dribbling ability. I do think Rangers
wanted to buy him, but Bayern Munich bought off the option to buy that Rangers had. That’s why he is now at PSV.”
Regarding Tillman, Pepi stated to The Athletic: “I knew he was a good player before he came here.” However, simply observing him on
the field demonstrates his excellent technique, some amazing turns, and awareness of players surrounding him.
“He can really deliver that final pass and is excellent in between the lines.
He makes some movements that leave you saying, “Woah, I didn’t see that coming.”
My View: Rangers missed out on a gem in Malik Tillman
Malik Tillman, especially for just £5 million (Goal), would have been a great addition for Rangers, in my opinion.
Goal claims that PSV may have to pay transfer fees totaling up to £13 million for Tillman. That demonstrates how well-liked Tillman is
among football players. James Tavernier, a standout for the Rangers, called him “an exceptional talent” in December 2022.
Although it is doubtful that the USA international playmaker will stay at Bayern for a long time, it speaks volumes about the
importance the German and European powerhouses placed on the young player that they signed him in the first place.
