Gattuso and Lorenzo Amoruso had a particular friendship that dates back to their time together at Ibrox.

Lorenzo Amoruso has opened up about his time at Rangers in a candid Italian TV interview,

saying how his time in Glasgow transformed his life for the better.

The veteran defender also revealed details about negotiations with his ‘brother’ Rino Gattuso,

which led to the fiery Italian’s departure from the club.

Amoruso and Gattuso spent a season together at Ibrox in the late 1990s, and their on-field partnership is warmly

remembered, despite how fleeting it was.

Gattuso was then in the early stages of a career that would lead him to become an AC Milan legend,

and he played as a 19-year-old, displaying some of the fire and brimstone that would define him.

For better or worse, he had memorable moments at Ibrox, but he moved after just one season to join Salernitana,

where his career surged following Walter Smith’s departure in 1999.

Amoruso, Gattuso’s ‘elder brother’ at Rangers, claims the move was only made after he advised him to go.

Gattuso is making headlines in Europe after being fired as Marseille manager earlier this week, and his old friend

Amoruso only had positive things to say.

He told TV Play in Italy: “He’s always been real; I went through a very hard phase in my career when I was injured

and had to stay at his house as a guest of his family.

“I have a special relationship, of respect and sympathy, I was the one who advised him as an older brother to leave

Rangers because the coach didn’t see him, also moving my agent to go to Salernitana where his career took off.”
